Queer Norfolk is a grassroots volunteer-led project, in partnership with Norwich Pride and supported by Norfolk Library & Information Service. It aims to hand ownership of queer collections back to communities and empower people to access, discover, and contribute to collections that reflect their shared histories. Central to this project is the creation of a Queer Norfolk e-Hive platform and website, which has enabled digital access to queer heritage collections across the county’s libraries, museums, and archives.
Queer- and volunteer-led projects can work alongside institutions to democratise ownership and accessibility of queer collections, while also creating a regional queer history network. Queer Norfolk hopes that the project will provide a template for many other regional heritage organisations to work together to open their queer collections to the public.
