Every month is LGBT+ history month at Queer Norfolk, but that just means we have to be EXTRA queer with our history this February. So, to help you get all queer and historical at the same time, we’ve put together a couple of events to get you excited about Queer Norfolk and our mission to make Norfolk’s queer heritage more accessible.
When: 10 – 7
Where: Top floor Norfolk and Norwich Millennium Library (ground floor from 6pm)
What: Come and meet the people behind Queer Norfolk. Learn more about Norfolk’s queer heritage, and get hands on with the LGBT+ collection at the Norfolk Heritage Centre. As well as the donation station, where you can donate items to the LGBT+ Collections, you can digitally donate your items to the Queer Norfolk website! At 6pm, come down to the ground floor for light refreshments and a ‘thank you’ for your support so far.
When: 10 – 3
Where: St Mary’s Works (Queer Fest Norwich)
What: The (small) pink filing cabinet will be back to take your donations! We want to make sure everyone is represented in the archive, so bring something that representes your queer identity in the queerest city in the east! Got a binder that’s well past its best? Or photos that show your gay friends in the 1980s? Or stickers that you slap over transphobic graffiti? Or a queer love letter? How about something with a great story that sheds light on queer life in Norwich or Norfolk? Bring it along, tell your story, and make your mark!
We’re also able to offer digital donations, so if you can’t bear to part with something but want to tell your story, we can take a high-quality photo and add it to our online collection!
For UEA LGBT+ History Month, Queer Norfolk’s Howe and Adam will be discussing the issues around being queer, how archives work for queer people (or rather how they work against them) and will also look at what Queer Norfolk contributers have uncovered.
When: 1 – 2.30
Where: St Mary’s Works (Queer Fest Norwich)
Queer coding is NOT required for this easy-peasy website-making workshop!
