Norfolk Takes Part in National Trancestry Exhibition

Norwich Trans Pride Helps Bring Local Stories to Historic Transcestry Exhibition

The TRANSCESTRY exhibition is a major event celebrating 10 years of collecting personal stories and objects from trans, non-binary, and intersex people. It is the world’s largest collection of its kind and will showcase over 1,000 personal items donated by people from across the UK and Ireland. Running from 11 March – 11 May 2025, this exhibition highlights the resilience, identity, and creativity of trans people, ensuring that their stories are remembered and shared.

To make sure Norfolk’s trans community is included, Norwich Trans Pride teamed up with Queer Norfolk, the Norfolk Heritage Centre, and the Museum of Norwich to hold a special collection day. This gave local trans, non-binary, and intersex people the chance to donate personal items and share their experiences, making sure their voices are part of this important exhibition.

The TRANSCESTRY exhibition is led by E-J Scott, the Founder of the Museum of Transology and a Senior Lecturer at Central Saint Martins. Students and staff from Central Saint Martins are also involved, helping to make the exhibition accessible and exploring new ways to design a space that truly represents queer and trans stories.

This project shows how important it is for local communities to be part of national history. These objects will be preserved alongside the words written by those who donated them, ensuring that authentic trans voices continue to be heard for generations to come.
